BYU's Facility Management Program
provides opportunity for students to succeed in their future career by
preparing them for leadership positions within the facilities management
field. As leaders in FM we follow guidelines set by international associations
and have gained recognition held by only a handful of programs
worldwide. The nearly 100% placement of graduates in the field of
Facilities Management reflects the need for well trained managers who are ready

Q. When can I apply for the FM
Program?
A. Deadlines for applying to the FM Program are:
- August 1st - Fall Semester
- December 1st - Winter Semester
- April 1st - Spring/Summer Semester
You have to complete the four pre-requisite classes prior to acceptance in the program, so if you are turning in your application in December, you need to have completed FM 110, Stat 221, Acc 200, and Econ 110 before the beginning of the winter semester which starts in January. You can apply for the program while you are finishing one or more of those classes.
Q. Does BYU offer any FM classes
online?
A. We know the desire for some of you professionals who would like to finish a degree while still working in the field. BYU does have an extensive online study system. Unfortunately, the relatively small size of our program limits what we can do to accommodate independent study students. Use BYU resources - Internship Office, Career Center and eRecruiting. Talk to FM faculty.Talk to other students who
have previously interned. Turn your
current job into an internship. Set up
informational interviews with professionals.
Search trade publications, classified ads and professional association
job listings. Search www.utahintern.com Search the telephone directory and submit
resumes. Use our student organizations
to access professionals. Networking: use
parents, friends, ward contacts, etc.
Use the career center’s resource page at www.byu.edu/intern. Research companies you want to work for and
ask them for an internship.
Q. How do I register for an internship?
A. The student will secure and complete an internship packet from 264 Crabtree Building and meet and receive approval from the internship coordinator. Students cannot begin an internship before approvals have been obtained in writing and the paper work is properly processed. The sponsoring organization (employer) reviews and signs the master agreement and negotiates any questions with the BYU academic internship office prior to the start of the internship. The students and the employer are required to draft and have jointly signed a job description prior to the internship that specifies the length of the internship (start and stop dates), any and all financial considerations that is being offered to the intern (stipend, salary, travel expenses, housing etc.), who the student will report to and who will write the student final evaluation, and a description of the final deliverable products or services that are anticipated. At the end of the internship the supervising employer will write an evaluation about student performance etc., and the student will write an evaluation and final report of the internship experience. Reminder: You must be admitted to the FM professional program in order to receive internship credit. To receive internship credit, the 60 required hours must begin and be completed in the semester you are registered for the internship. You cannot receive credit for hours completed during other semesters.
